Newport, Oregon
Pacific Shores Motorcoach Resort
high 52, low 50, winds at 54 mph
February had 17 days of cloudy/rain days, 4 days of snow and 7 days of sunshine. March 1st roared in with more rain and more wind. More is expected this week with high wind warnings and 4 to 8 inches of rain. Our plan is to escape and avoid the wet winds and see if we can find spring somewhere. Hoping the roads are clear tomorrow so we can get over the Cascades and get into Central Oregon.
In spite of the rain we have had a great time at the beach! The pups have enjoyed the freedom and exploring and discovering new things like banana slugs and starfish at low tide.

We had been anticipating the arrival of a limited micro brew from Pelican Brewing called the Mother of All Storms. It finally came in and we made a night of dinner from crab cocktails to Marionberry crisp with vanilla ice cream to go with it. In order to get this particular oak aged brew, you have to be present at the brewery on Mothers Day to order for the following February release. Sounds crazy, but I guess it's a big deal. We had the opportunity to order a couple of bottles from the Deep End Cafe. It was OK, not something I would get again. It was a fun night with Molly and Roger, neighbors here at the resort. We also tried a bar-b-que place in Toledo, OR called Pig Feathers that houses the Twisted Snout Brewery. Ribs were good, chicken fingers were good and the fries were fresh cut. Beer was good with a large assortment. Seems like all we did the last week was eat out!
On Saturday night we headed the 24 miles north to Lincoln City Chinook Winds Casino for Credence Clearwater Revisited. Revisited is made up of two of the original CCR members. Stu the bass player and Doug the drummer have played together for 56 years. They are approaching 69 years old and you would never believe it. Both are in great shape and sound great! We had front row seats with the speakers off to the side so we didn't lose our hearing. I laughed when they handed out ear plugs! Guess we are all getting older and wiser when it comes to loud music. Anyway, CCR sounded awesome and the songs made me feel like a teenager again! I remembered each 45 and which song was on the flip side. Years ago, Eric started a bike helmet program with an elaborate assembly to bring awareness to the need to wear a helmet. He had to get permission to use Bad Moon Rising from the record label. He got the permission and it made us laugh remembering the elementary students dancing in their seats to it. The venue was their bingo parlor and showroom combined. It's been awhile since I went to a concert and sat in dining chairs. We will definitely go to another concert there as we enjoy the older groups. The tickets were very reasonable by Las Vegas standards at $35.00.
Since we are leaving the coast for a little bit, I figured I would end with some of my photos from last weeks low tide walks on the beach...
