Record Cold (for us) in Jackson, WY

Sunday morning was grey skies and cold.  The forecast said snow and it did.  We relaxed all day while the snow flurried about, melting as soon as it the ground.

Gidget watching the snow

The temps are dropping, instead of climbing for Spring.  The morning low was 11.  No problems for the Beast though.  the only issues were we were cold and the water pump froze up.

On Monday the skies were blue, beyond any blue I have seen.  The sun shine felt great!  Don;t let the sun fool you though, it as still in the 30's all day.  Feeling a little cabin fever, we packed up the puppies and took a ride to the Tetons.

The Tetons were formed millions of years ago by earthquakes and rising of the plates and dropping valley floors.  Then massive glaciers carved out the jagged skyline.  I think these mountains are amazingly beautiful!  The air was crisp and we had the place to ourselves almost.  No one must be as crazy or is it anxious to get north?

We saw Buffalo, Elk and White Tail Deer today.  The Elk were in the big field by the Jackson airport.  The buffalo were right on the side of the road.  I get real nervous around big, wild animals.  Hubby thinks I must be nuts.  Gidget and Mowgli barked at the Buffalo and you can see his reaction-"really? ya barking at me?"  A crazy tourist actually got out of his car to get a photo, using our car as a shield.  I'm sure we'll see more of these as we go along.

The iPhone self portrait!  You'll see more of these I promise!

Tuesday we goofed off, heading to the used book store where we picked up a bird guide, a fishing book and the first book in the Stephen King Dark Tower series.  I have read all the Steven King books except the Dark Tower series.  I saved these for retirement!  We made a stop at k-mart for car wash stuff and grabbed coconut M&M's, our favorite!

The puppies didn't think this was funny.

Osprey are everywhere along the road.  This one decided our pups were too big to bother with.

Our Beast and the Teton's at our private campground

We haven't done much, but it seems like a busy week.  We have really enjoyed having the campground to ourselves.  The jacuzzi has been nice, warming you up and relaxing those muscles.  Walks along the golf course, catching up on movies and reading has been wonderful!

On Saturday we will head to Dillon, Mt where we will drive into Yellowstone as a day trip.  Not much is open yet, so it'll be a quick easy trip.  We were going to go to West Yellowstone to stay, but it is still really cold there with temps of 50 for a high and low 20's at night.  Enough with the winter!  Dillon is expecting 70's by the weekend, woo hoo!

  1. Such a beautiful place, the Tetons. Must have been wonderful to have it to yourselves ... almost. There is a downside to visiting parks during the off-season, but the solitude far outweighs the inconveniences.
