Wrigley Field then on to Rock n Roll

Union, IL
Sunny and Steamy

The forecast for Monday looked dismal with a high percentage of rain, thunderstorms, and wind.  We had tickets for a stadium tour and the afternoon game against the Brewers.  We were well prepared for rain with our trusty ponchos and hats. We left early (6:30 am) as we had been warned the traffic into Chicago from Union would be awful.  We sailed on in and arrived at Wrigley at 7:30 with a tour at 9.  With an hour and half to kill, we sat in the car chit chatted and waited.  At 8:45 we joined the other folks for the tour.

Wrigley is the second oldest stadium in Baseball (can you guess the oldest?) completed in 1914.  The stadium has a lot of history and is unique in that they allow the businesses and apartments next to the stadium to sell rooftop seats.  It may be fun, but there is nothing like being at a game live.  The cubs were way ahead at the 7th inning so we busted out to beat traffic back to Union.  The pups had been left alone all day and really missed us.  And all those weather warnings?  The clouds parted and we had bright sunshine all afternoon.

We left Union early on Tuesday hoping to beat all the traffic.  We didn't.  It took us 1.5 hours to get 20 miles.  We made the turn south before the city limits and ran into more traffic.  It was very hairy and I think I lost a year of my life on the roads in Illinois.  Tolls were not too bad in Illinois as we spent $13.00 in tolls in Illinois, $26.70 to drive across Indiana and $25.00 in Ohio.  It wouldn't mind if the roads didn't bounce us all over!  The entire Midwest seems to be under construction.  It is nice to see things getting back to normal and people working.

The dreaded Tolls

We debated whether or not to go to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as it was 50 miles back to Cleveland from our camp spot at Geneva on the Lake, Ohio.  We went ahead and went.  The drive was peaceful and the museum was easy to find.  I am so glad we decided to go.  I had a great time looking at all the costumes and little bits of history.  Lucy in the Sky in Diamonds is not about LSD, but rather Julian Lennon brought home a picture he drew of his school friend Lucy in the sky with diamonds all around.  John Lennon's Sgt. Pepper costume is on display as is Paul's suit from the early years.  Very cool!  Zander's stage costume from Cheap Trick's Las Vegas Sgt. Pepper's run is also on display.  Eric and I saw that show at least three times when they were there with George Martin producing and working the sound board.  We spent about 4 hours there and it brought back many memories for me.

The stadium tour at Wrigley is a must for any baseball fan.  The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was very fun and well worth the price of admission.

Tomorrow finds us heading farther east towards New York.  On the agenda is an Erie Canal tour and then on to Niagara Falls.  We are hoping to be in Vermont early next week to visit family that I haven't seen in a very long time.
