Ashaway, RI
Ashaway RV Resort
Seeing family and friends was the only objective on this stop of our adventure. Eric spent his high school years in RI near his large family and lots of cousins. He made lifelong friends and it was really fun spending time with all of them.
Our stay in Rhode Island included eating lunch at Federal Hill with Roger, his wife Penny and Ken, Eric's cousins. Afterward we shopped at the huge delis and markets. It was amazing and I was overwhelmed with the selection of fabulous foods! A stop at Crugnales bakery for pigs in a blanket, pizza strips, egg biscuits and pepper biscuits for the road.
His cousins that live in the area total 7, but when you get them together it seems like more. What a fun happy group. I was welcomed in to the fold with open arms. What does a large Italian family eat when they get together? Italian food of course! We enjoyed Sharon's gravy with meatballs and sausage, penne pasta, pizza, pepper biscuits, along with fabulous desserts. A Sunday afternoon of fun and laughter was great and just what we needed.
The four cousins treated us to a fabulous dinner at Marchetti's. I enjoyed my Chicken Marsalla, which came with a hearty helping of penne with gravy. I had lots to take home for two days lunches! What a great restaurant! It was noisy, cozy and we loved every minute. Michael, Steven, Roger and Ken-We can't thank you and your families enough for the kindness and hospitality! A family reunion is in the works for next summer-we will be there and can't wait!

Fall is here! |
We drove by Eric's high school home and all his high school hangouts. We spent an afternoon with 4 old friends reliving their crazy high school years. I am sure glad they all grew up and didn't land in jail based on their funny stories!
Next stop-Pennsylvania.......
There's a lot of eating going on anytime a group of Italian heritage gets together ... and it's always good food.
ReplyDeleteLots of happy faces and good eats. Hope you guys were safe from that nasty storm that headed your way.
ReplyDeleteStay safe.
