3.5 inches of rain!
After all our visiting with old friends, we headed to Cape Cod, a place I had dreamed about for a long time. My image of little cottages surrounded by white fences and sandy beaches with wild grasses growing was I guess a little naive. If there is a place with such natural beauty, everyone wants to be there. And be there, they are.
The Cape seems to have filled in from one town to the next with one long city. There is hardly a break from one to the next. The main road Rte 6 runs from one end to the other. It all appears very natural from that road, but get off onto 28 or 6A and there civilization is.
In spite of the infill and development, it is a beautiful place. The beaches range from sugar texture to soft flour texture sand. The dogs were allowed on the public beaches which they loved.
We ventured out to Cape Cod National Seashore, a 44,000 acre park along the eastern shore. The salt marshes and bogs add a bit of layering to the shoreline with the calm Atlantic Ocean lapping along.
We traveled to Provincetown, home to the first landing site of the Pilgrims. The Pilgrims landed here before heading over to Plymouth Rock.

We took the fast ferry over to Nantucket on a recommendation from our good friends. What a cool place! The homes are beautiful, old, old, old and well taken care of. If you ventured off the main shopping streets, the trees were turning beautiful colors and the leaves blowing in the wind were just perfect for a fall rainy day.
We said farewell to Cape Cod and ventured on to Rhode Island for more visits with family and friends. This trip is more fun than we thought, albeit a little challenging at times. Little blips on the radar have done little to spoil our fun!
It's been way too many years since we were in Cape Cod ... it was a grand time with family. Thanks for taking me back there.
