Mt. Rushmore and the Black Hills

Creekside Mountain RV
Windy 62 degrees

We left Devils Tower early in the morning to avoid the forecasted rain and thunderstorms.  We arrived in the Black Hills at about 10:30 in the morning.  We decided to stay at this little RV camp just south of Hill City.  We had reservations, but the folks that were going to vacate changed their mind.  The owners had us park the Beast across two smaller sites.  It worked just fine for us, I just felt bad we took two sites.  HaHa, I didn't think the Beast was that big!

We drove through Deadwood where there was an old car rally.  We saw every type of car from old Street Rods to new Corvettes and Cameros.

After a quick lunch, we headed off to Mt. Rushmore.  It was not too crowded for the Saturday before school starts, probably because of the horrible weather forecasted.  Our luck was with us as the weather held out and actually improved to beautiful clear skies.

After a short drive to Custer State Park we went back to the coach to do some housekeeping items and make some dinner.  We went back to the Memorial for the lighting ceremony.  The night was chilly and the mosquitoes were hungry.  We watched from the old viewing platform and were the only folks there.  Definitely a place to go to!

Tomorrow will be the Badlands and the Minuteman Missile Site outside of Wall South Dakota.
