Northern Maine-Lobstah, leaves, and sunsets

Sunset Point Campground
Harrington, Maine
high low 60's, low high 30's

It is getting a little chillier in Northern Maine.  We woke this morning to a cold 37 degrees.  Got thing I put another quilt on the bed!  The colder temps should give the turning leaves a jolt.  Several are starting to turn red and falling off the trees.  This campground is very quiet, peaceful and comes with an added bonus...The owner will deliver hot steamed lobster to your coach for dinner if you order them.  We did it twice, and yum, was it good!  We paired it with a little Duck Pond Pinot Blanc and we were very satisfied.

We have used this park as a home base for three days of exploring.  The first day we went to the Northern most point in the USA- West Quoddy Lighthouse.  The lighthouse was built in 1808, with the present light built in 1858.  The lighthouse became automated in 1988.  The candy striped light is one of the most commonly depicted on calendars and posters.

We ventured farther north-almost to Canada.  We enjoyed Lobster rolls at a roadside stand in Lubec.  Farther on we stopped to look at the Lubec Channel Light.  This is a cast iron lighthouse at the western entrance to the most northeasterly town in the US.

The second day we ventured south to Corea for lobster rolls at the wharf and to visit Schoodic Point.  Schoodic Point was a beautiful spot to view the Atlantic Ocean and well worth the drive.  Along the way we enjoyed the tree lined roads and the cottages and victorian style homes along the way.  The colonials are beautiful in their simplicity.  We passed a little stand with little wooden buoys for sale.  Perfect for a little Christmas tree!  The booth was on the honor system with the money jay below.  We loved the area.

We traveled farther south to Acadia National Park for a walk around Cadillac Mountain and driving the Park Loop road.  We made stops along the way and the pups enjoyed a little exercise and fresh air.  After the drive we intended to visit Bar Harbor.  It was crowded and the traffic really picked up.  We decided to skip the shopping and head out for a (what else?) lobster roll.  We found a spot and ate in the car with the pups.  Eric enjoyed lobster mac n cheese, lobster stew and I had the traditional lobster roll.  Once I find something I like, I stick with it.

One of the highlights for me on this leg of the trip was a side trip into Bangor to take a photo at Stephen King's house.  I have read every one of his books, short stories and novellas.  I look forward to every book release and can't wait to get them in my hands and tend to stay up to read them.

I think the house next door is his also as the fencing is the same and continuous

Dysarts Truck Stop-a stop in Dreamcatcher

We head towards Portland tomorrow.  Based on today, I think we may be in store for more crowds.  We have enjoyed the quietness in Downeast Maine as most of the tourist related businesses are closed for the season.

We enjoyed the sunsets and walks around the campground..
